Key Activities
Please find below a round up of Children's Satsanga activities at the Bengaluru Kendra.
special occasions, during pre-class activity, children decorate the altar with flowers, rangoli and light the lamp, followed by energization exercises. They offer Pranami as a mark of gratitude and respect to Guru/ParamGurus.
Chanting Workshop
“ Teach us to chant in harmony the countless expressions of our supreme devotion. In Thy temple of the earth, in a chorus of many-accented voices, we are singing only to Thee”
- Sri Sri Paramahansa Yogananda from “Whispers from Eternity”
During the last week of every month, a recap of the previous weeks’ classes is followed by the much enjoyed chanting workshop.
Children are taught to play Guruji’s Cosmic Chants on the harmonium, cymbals, bells and other percussion instruments. Children also teach each other how to play the instruments and teach their parents after going home. On special commemorations, they also lead the whole congregation in chanting at the main mandir prior to the bhajan session.
Special Activities Throughout The Year
Special YSS Commemorations
Apart from regular classes, children celebrate special commemorations like Guruji's / Paramgurus' birthdays and mahasamadhi anniversaries, with the same as the class theme. Children set up Babaji's cave in the month of July and invite parents and devotees to come and meditate.
They have a chance to learn lessons from the life of Guruji/Paramgurus through their stories from the Autobiography of a Yogi and also try to emulate them in whatever way they can in their own lives.
Other occasions like Ganesh Chaturthi, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Holi give the teachers and children an opportunity for joy, celebration and more fun and spiritually themed activities.
Bi-annual Spiritual Picnic
Every year two spiritual picnics are organised at the Bengaluru Kendra on 15th of August and 26th of January that are open to all devotees, including children.
Teachers plan a number of activities like bhajans, meditation, drawing/colouring, ‘Yogames’, treasure hunt etc. to make the day enjoyable and memorable with a spiritual take away idea for children.
Greeting & Inviting Our Kendra's Neighbours
Each New Year, Diwali and Christmas, the children share hand-made greeting cards, sweets, cakes, gifts and good wishes with the Kendra's neighbours as part of expanding their consciousness and showing their caring and joy.
Children creatively make invitations and distribute them among kendra neighbours, inviting them to participate in Janmotsav celebrations.
Service Activities
Children visit old age homes/ children's homes accompanied by teachers and parents. They chant and meditate with them, entertain them and also distribute food & clothes to the needy. Photo: Children at Anmol Elder Care
Serving at Public Functions
During the public functions organised by YSDK Bengaluru in 2018, our Sunday Satsanga children exemplified the qualities of being Guruji’s children, by serving the attendees with loving and kind hospitality.
Children also serve in small and sweet little ways during monastic tours and special commemorative functions at the Kendra.
The above is a roundup of typical activities at the Kendra. Children’s Satsanga volunteers (teachers and assistants) use opportunities that come up each year to change the routine for the children and try to get them to do different interesting and spiritually beneficial activities (park visits, park cleanup and so on.)
